Winter Solstice and Holiday Concert
Charpentier's sublime Nativity Pastorale plus Medieval and Renaissance music for the season. An alternative to Handel's Messiah, Charpentier's Pastorale tells the story of the birth of Jesus Christ from the viewpoint of an angel. Medieval and Renaissance music written about the coming of winter and winter holidays begin the concert.

Program:
The first half of the concert is Medieval instrumental music, plus a suite for 2 violas da gamba by Johann Schenk (1656-ca.1712), and December and January by Christopher Simpson (d. 1669) from "The Months." The second half of the program is Charpentier's "Nativity Pastorale."
