Karen Elizabeth Urlie, soprano, is seen frequently on
opera, concert and recital stages across the Pacific Northwest. She has
been a featured soloist with the Baroque Northwest Quartet, Northwest
Sinfonietta, the Bellevue Chamber Chorus, the Sacred Music Chorale,
Kitsap Opera, Livermore Valley Opera, Rainier Lyric Opera, Bellevue
Opera, Seattle Opera Guild Previews, and is a regular member of the
Seattle Opera Chorus. Recently, Ms. Urlie worked with Adam Guettel,
Tony Award winning composer of A Light in the Piazza, on a
recording of his original work for the Intiman Theater. An avid
recitalist, Ms. Urlie also creates and performs a new recital program
every one to two years. Her growing song repertoire includes works of
Rodrigo, Liszt, Obradors, Barber, R. Strauss, Schubert, Purcell,
Quilter, Romberg, Wolf, Mozart, Faure, and much more.
Ms. Urlie is a winner of several recent awards and competitions
including the 2001 Seattle Ladies Musical Club Awards/Tour Competition,
a finalist in the 2002 N.A.T.S. Western Washington District Vocal
Competition, second place at the 2002 N.A.T.S. Northwest Regional
Competition, and a finalist in the 2003 Sun Valley Opera Vocal
Competition. In 2006, she won first place in the N.A.T.S. Western
Washington District Vocal Competition. Ms. Urlie has been very
fortunate to have studied with a wonderful teacher and mentor,
Mr. William Eddy of Tacoma, Washington.
