Baroque Northwest presents the Benevolent Order for Music of the Baroque in concert featuring internationally renowned baroque flutists and recorder players Matthias Maute and Sophie Larivière in Bläsing Baroque: Virtuoso Wind Music of the 17th, 18th, & 20th Centuries. Music by J F Fasch, J B de Boismortier, Mealli, Ortiz, Detri, Falconieri, Maute, & G Ph Telemann.

This program contains virtuosic, dramatic, and passionate wind music from the 17th and 18th centuries plus two compositions by Mr. Maute. The concert also features local favorites Kim Pineda on baroque flute and recorder, as well as August Denhard, theorbo, Elizabeth Brown, archlute and baroque guitar, and Ronn Fullerton, viola da gamba.

The Oregonian wrote: "Flautists Matthias Maute and Kim Pineda turned in an exceptional performance, uniformly agile and . . . attentively responsive."

Matthias Maute has acquired an international reputation both as a wind player and composer. In 1990 he received the first prize in the Early Music Competition at the Flanders Festival in Bruges, Belgium. As one of the founding members of the Trio Passaggio they won the chamber music competition of the Dutch Impresariat (1993). He is the artistic director of the Ensemble Caprice and performs regularly with orchestras like the Bach Akademie Stuttgart, and Portland's Trinity Consort. He closely collaborates with the American early music string ensemble Rebel (presented by Seattle's Early Music Guild in 1996), with which he toured in Europe and the U.S., most recently at the 2000 Berkeley Festival and exhibition. As a composer he published works mainly for the recorder and baroque flute at different publishing houses like Amadeus (Switzerland), Moeck , Mieroprint (Germany) and Ascolta (Holland). A native of Germany, Mr. Maute now resides in Montreal, Canada.
